Food and drink

With its Edwardian splendour and a recent multi-million pound refurbishment, the Corn Exchange is home to a unique mix of restaurants and bars from around the world. It centres on a busy open internal seating area and its restaurants also have outdoor seating for summer dining. The fusion of cultures and flavours comes together to create an unforgettable and individual dining experience for any occasion. It’s the perfect place for a bite to eat or a few festive drinks after work.

The world-renowned Christmas markets can also be found just a moment’s walk away and provide the ultimate festive experience. The markets boast an array of fantastic gifts, such as crafts, jewellery, clothing and toys, but the main attraction is undoubtedly the food and drink offering. Soak up the atmosphere and follow the market trail as it winds through the city centre and treat yourself to the mouth-watering international food on offer. Manchester’s Christmas markets are famous for traditional bratwurst, but visitors can also treat themselves to Hungarian goulash, Spanish paella or a good old-fashioned hog roast.

Situated adjacent to Embankment is also an array of bars and pubs, which provide the ideal retreat from the winter weather and the perfect opportunity to get into the festive spirit. From traditional English pubs like the Old Wellington and Sinclair’s Oyster Bar to the newly opened Embankment Kitchen and Harvey Nicks restaurant, there is something for every taste and pocket.

Shopping

Manchester’s iconic Arndale Centre is home to some of the biggest and best high street retailers, with an enormous selection of stores all under one roof. Centrally located, just off Market Street, the Arndale is right on the doorstep of the Exchange Station Metrolink stop. Christmas shopping has never been easier! Pop over on your way home, or your lunch break, and pick up some pressies or stocking fillers for your loved ones.

If you’re looking for a slightly more luxurious and decadent gift, then look no further than iconic stores Selfridges and Harvey Nichols which are both on the doorstep in Exchange Square. Boasting the world’s top high-end brands, renowned food hall and contemporary brasserie and cocktail bar, this really is aspirational retail therapy at its best.

Seasonal events

If you want to throw a little tradition back into your Christmas, Manchester Cathedral has plenty of festive events planned for December. They are hosting a number of charity events and carol services. Drop in and enjoy singing a selection of well-known favourites.

The gardens of the Cathedral have also been transformed for the season. The Ice Village has returned and will feature attractions such as a Tiki Bar, an ice skating rink and Santa’s Grotto – perfect for a family get-together.

You can also enjoy some ice rink fun at MediaCityUK, making for the perfect family day out in Salford!
